Doctor Ehrenzweig

The quotes from Ehrenzweig on this blog seem, when I read them later, not completely original or surprising, yet I am very much captured by his book. For me it’s a confirmation. But he is also a friendly and welcome voice in the studio, who helps me get to where I want to be, to follow through. Back in my teaching days, like many of my colleagues, I used to wonder what was the use of the new studio PhD. A purely rhetorical wonderment, because obviously it is completely useless, at least if one wants to be an artist. Meanwhile I was myself a competent doctor of sick paintings.

the doctor is in, the patient doing well
